Dr. Uvaldo Cantu, an Obstetrics/Gynecology Physician and former President of the Rio Grande Council – Boy Scouts of America, in partnership with Mike Jones of Jones Liquor (800 E. Alton Gloor, Brownsville), hosted a sold-out dinner and wine tasting fundraiser to help the Rio Grande Council on Thursday, March 29 in South Padre Island.

The fundraiser was held at Dr. Cantu’s home on Gulf Boulevard with a distinguished guest list including an array of prominent physicians, attorneys, city leaders, and also a renowned wine maker, Matt Meyer of Meyer’s Family Vineyard in Mendocino, California.

This fundraiser is the first of its kind in the area, and as Jones explained, “My son Robert [12 years old] is 90 days away from becoming an Eagle Scout, and the Boy Scouts have done a lot for my children… I just want to give a little back for everything they have done for my two boys.”
