Ex-Tarpon footballers will do it again

TarponsIf you’ve ever played high school football, it may have occurred to you from time to time to get together with your old teammates and give it one more try.

A number of young men, who once suited up for Port Isabel High School, have decided to do just that. Thirty or so former Tarpon players will pull on pads and uniforms and will play an actual game at Tarpon Stadium on April 27. Their opponent will be another group of young men who once did battle on the football fields of South Texas, including their home field at Hidalgo High School.

Former Tarpon player, and 1995 P.I.H.S. graduate, Kenny Martin is one of the organizers of the event. On how the whole idea got off the ground, he said, “We tried for a couple of years to do it with Los Fresnos, but there wasn’t very much interest from them. Hidalgo showed more interest and it’s been definite now for about a month. The game will be in Port Isabel because we signed up the requisite number of players first.”
