During the 36th annual Travel Study Tour, sponsored by the Texas Travel Industry Association last fall, South Padre Island received five “Best” awards out of eight categories during the Study Tour of the Coastal Rio Grande Valley. Participants in the tour and the voting process are Texas Department of Transportation (TDOT) and AAA travel counselors.
The 2011 Coastal Rio Grande Valley Travel Study Tour spanned five days, during which the participants visited 19 cities, dined at 14 restaurants, visited 38 attractions and were hosted by 14 “step-on” guides. A step-on guide is the individual who steps onto the bus and conducts a tour.
South Padre Island was recognized with a “Best” designation in the following categories:
