Voters approve charter change, new trustee elected

The votes for the May 2012 general elections in the Laguna Madre area have been tallied.

According to uncanvassed votes, Bertha Zamora emerged the winner of trustee Place 4 on the Point Isabel ISD School Board with 454 votes. Julie Gaucin received the second most votes with 147. Raul Lorea received 83 votes and Nancy Martinez received 71. Trustee Pl. 6 was taken by Rene A. Valdez, who ran unopposed.

In Port Isabel, the city charter was on the ballot. The proposition that called for three-year terms for the mayor was not passed with 92 votes against and 67 for.
