Six South Padre Islanders are racing this weekend in the sixth annual Kiteboarding 4 Cancer, North America’s largest amateur kiteboarding event.

Jason Norwood, Aarin Hartwell, Brett Newcomb, Carol and Tony Bolstad and Jim Brown will all travel to Hood River, Ore., to compete in the event. For the racers, though, it’s not about winning. The real reward is helping raise money for cancer.

“I just wanted to be involved and raise money for cancer,” Norwood said. “I’ve had family that fought and won their battle.”
