A trip to the beach ended in tragedy for a Laguna Vista teen and his family.

Sixteen-year-old Michael “Mikey” McCormick collapsed from unknown causes and is now fighting for his life in a Corpus Christie hospital.

Mikey’s mother, Tami, said Mikey was playing on a boogie board near the shore on Wednesday, June 27. She said she saw him staggering toward their pavilion when he suddenly collapsed in the sand.

“In one second everything changed. I’ll never forget that look in his eye,” McCormick said.
