The City of Port Isabel broke ground on the long-awaited Visitor & Events Center and Emergency Operations Center Saturday.

Ronald Lindsay, project manager, said the 19,000 square foot building will be one of the most impressive facilities he’s built for a city. He said the building will be a 12-month project that should be underway within the next 45 days.

Mayor Joe Vega said the city is excited to be able to host different types of events that otherwise would go to other cities. He said the building will have a parking area that will be available to visitors to use while visiting in Port Isabel.

“This is a new chapter for Port Isabel,” Vega said.
