policeDue to recent burglaries at Long Island Village Resort, residents are taking preventive measures to make sure they are safe.

A watch committee has been organized. This committee is working with the City of Port Isabel Police Department, Cameron County Sheriff’s Department, the Constable’s office, and the Securitas Company to implement ways for the Long Island Village residents to prevent future break-ins. Crime prevention and home security strategies are the focus of this group.

Officer Hernandez from the sheriff’s office suggested that any time a resident suspects something out of the ordinary or are concerned for their safety they should call 911, and stay on the line with the dispatcher until an officer arrives to check out the situation.

Affiliations such as the watch committee allow for neighbors to get acquainted and care about each other as well as working toward recognizing and reporting any suspicious activity.
