Injury prompts temporary causeway closure

emergency-lightsThe Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway was temporarily closed Thursday when a worker replacing the railing was injured.

Authorities said the worker needed medical attention after a piece of railing fell on his foot near the highest point of the causeway on the east bound lane. The incident caused traffic congestion in Port Isabel.

Responding to the incident were the South Padre Island police, Port Isabel police and deputies from the Cameron County Constable Precinct 1 office.

Texas DPS will be investigating the case.
