South Padre Parade
South Padre Island is crawling with Spring Breakers escaping classes and other responsibilities, but not getting lost in the sea of neon colors is Saint Patrick’s Day that will be celebrated this Sunday.
This week Beach Bar Beat visits Kelly’s Irish Pub located 101 E. Morningside, the most authentic Irish Pub in the Rio Grande Valley, where they will be celebrating the Irish Saint’s day from the top of the morning to close.
This week’s bartender fills us in on the festivities.
Name: Sosanna Nicolas
Specialty drink: We pour more beer than anything. I would have to say Guinness.
What makes South Padre Island great: The people, I love the people. Every walk of life comes into Kelly’s and it is awesome.
Favorite holiday: St. Patrick’s Day by far!
How do you celebrate: Guinness, a good party, corned beef and cabbage. We will be here all day.
What do you do with rowdy customers: Ask them to calm down or I will kick them out.
Why Kelly’s Irish Pub: It is a relaxed atmosphere and nice local spot. Everyone gets to enjoy the Irish pub scene and it is lots of fun.

After summer, bartenders featured in the Beach Bar Beat will be rounded up to compete to be this year’s champion. To participate, you can vote for your favorite in the second annual South Padre Parade’s Beach Bartender Competition.
Feel free to join me for a drink when you see me working the Beach Bar Beat. It is a tough job, but someone has to do it.
