A Laguna Vista resident and seventh grader at Saint Joseph Academy in Brownsville competed in the Private School Interscholastic Association Spelling Competition.
Taylor Wilson recently won the PSIA District Spelling Competition for seventh and eighth graders.
Spelling words are pronounced at approximately five words per minute. Contestants may either write or print each word. While 20 percent of the test words come from outside sources, 80 percent come from the PSIA Spelling List. A different list is published annually for the three grade groups.
PSIA provides an exciting opportunity for private school students in grades first through eighth to engage in academic competition with their peers throughout the state of Texas.
Wilson has qualified for the State PSIA Championship being held at the TCU campus in Fort Worth.
Taylor is the daughter of Captain Grant and Bonnie Wilson of Laguna Vista.
“We are really proud of her,” Bonnie Wilson said.
