The Beach Bar Beat makes its way to the Bayside of South Padre Island visiting a staple of the community. Coconut’s offers more than relaxing views and cold drinks.

Belly up to the bar for a tempting selection of tropical drinks or enjoy a late lunch under the palm-thatched Palapa. The Caribbean specialty menu features tasty items you won’t find anywhere else this side of the Rio Grande.

Starting this summer Bacon Friday returns from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Name: Neita Beth

Specialty drink: I make the leg opener, it is not guaranteed to work but do let us know how it goes on Facebook.

What do you like about working at Coconuts: I love working by the water, the amazing sunset’s ambiance and, of course, me.

What is your favorite season: The winter with the Winter Texan visitors who bring me awesome shirts and just keep smiling.

What do you like about bartending in general: Having people visit and coming back to see you year after year. I am really good at remembering names and customers appreciate that.

What is the worst pick-up line you have heard: No comment.

What is a pet peeve from behind the bar: Sunflower seeds. I hate when sunflower seeds get everywhere, or getting a drink thrown on me.

What do you do when you are not bartending: Hang out with the hubby. Kayaking, fishing or playing with the grandkids; they are the best.

After summer, bartenders featured in the Beach Bar Beat will be rounded up to compete to be this year’s champion. To participate, you can vote for your favorite in the second annual South Padre Parade’s Beach Bartender Competition.

Feel free to join me for a drink when you see me working the Beach Bar Beat. It is a tough job, but someone has to do it.
