The gym is a state of the art building and facility. Owner Larry Polsky is an attorney whose law office is located on the first floor of his building and the gym is on the second floor. Polsky built the complex in 2011.
“I have been a boxing fan my entire life and now I am just living the dream,” Polsky said.
The gym also offers a variety of classes for anyone interested in becoming more fit or versed in some self-defense techniques.
“There is a benefit of defense and confidence when you find yourself in a tight situation,” Polsky said. Two trainers as well as different students help with exercises and proper form. Membership at Polsky’s Pure Platinum Boxing Gym starts at $50 per month and depends on the amount of personal time with the trainer.
Polsky has recently taken on the role of promoter with the event “Battle at the Beach,” a boxing match with eight bouts on the card scheduled for May 4 at the South Padre Island Convention Centre at 7:30 p.m. He said the matches are between equally-skilled fighters and will be competitive.
The weigh-in for the event is Friday at 1 p.m. at Polsky’s Pure Platinum Boxing Gym with future hall of famer Ronnie Shields.
“There will not be any punching bags out there, they are all evenly matched,” Polsky said.”
Polsky’s Pure Platinum Boxing Gym hours of operation are from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 12 noon until 5 p.m. on Saturday and by appointment on Sunday. Tickets for The Battle at the Beach are available by calling (956) 761-1269 or at the event.
