STOPPED SHORT: Tarpons’ chase for State ends with 21-14 loss to La Vernia

CORPUS CHRISTI — As the La Vernia Bears took a knee to run out the clock to win last Friday’s regional round playoff game, fans on the Port Isabel side sat in disbelief.
Many of them were sad because the season was over at 12-1 after the devastating 21-14 setback.
