Aurora Garcia young copia (2)Aurora GarciaAurora Fernandez Garcia, 77, of Port Isabel, TX entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 26, 2014 at Kindred Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
 
She was born in Brownsville, Texas and was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel, Texas until January 2012. She and her loving husband of 56 years moved to San Antonio to live with her daughter, Isabel, First Street Assisted Living, and Meridian Care. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel, TX.
 
Mrs. Garcia worked for the City of Port Isabel for many years as the Director of Social Services for the program, Amigos Del Valle. She helped many residents with the various social services; which included delivering many food commodities to the young and elderly. She was best known as “la señora del queso” and put a smile on many needy families. She was also known as the best hostess to cater many Adult Day Care social events across the valley. Everyone either dressed up in formal wear or in a Halloween costume was guaranteed to have a good time. She enjoyed playing Bingo, scrapbooking, and caring for her family. Aurora was a strong-willed woman who lived to her heart’s desires.
 
Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her mother, Tomasa Zamora Fernandez; father, Juan Fernandez; a son, Rafael Garcia; a brother, Manuel Fernandez; mother-in-law, Catarina Cuellar Garcia; and father-in-law, Pedro Garcia.
 
Survivors include her husband, Librado C. Garcia; four sons: Librado “Leo” (Rita) Garcia, Jr. of Laguna Vista, TX, Manuel (Irma) Garcia of Selma, TX, Rolando (Patricia) Garcia, and Jesus “Chuy” (Starla) Garcia both of San Antonio, TX; two daughters, Catarina G. (John) Hernandez of Laguna Vista, TX and Isabel “Betty” G. (Ken) Jensen of Selma, TX; two brothers: Juan Fernandez, Jr., Joe Fernandez, both of Port Isabel, TX;  half-brother, Jesse Fernandez of Houston, TX; two sisters, Margarita Fernandez and Marina Fernandez of Port Isabel, TX; nine grandchildren: Johvonne H. (De’Sean) Howard, Jason Garcia, Ashley Garcia, Evelyn Garcia, Adrian Garcia, Jacob Garcia, Renee Garcia, Marissa Garcia, and Bianca Garcia; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
 
Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Thomae Garza Funeral Home and continued from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a holy rosary recited at 7:00 pm, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St in Port Isabel, Texas.
 
 Funeral mass was held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment followed at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
 
Serving as pallbearers: Librado “Leo” Garcia, Jr., Jason Garcia, Manuel Garcia, Rolando Garcia, Adrian Garcia, and Jacob Garcia.
