John Thobe, a candidate for Laguna Madre Water District Director Position No. 2, said that controversial statements he made in a Jan. 6, 2009 email to former Town of Laguna Vista Mayor Stan Hulse were “taken out of context.”

Recently, citizens have expressed concern with statements Thobe made in the email exchange. Specifically, the PRESS has received complaints in the form of anonymous callers as well as a letter to the editor that described Thobe’s remarks as “discriminatory” and “prejudice.” The letter in question, which was authored by Robert Ramirez of Laguna Vista, was not published because it constituted an advertisement as opposed to an opinion.
