The Port Isabel Tarpons basketball team played their first game of the season at the Marine Military Academy Tuesday night, and dropped a 65-36 decision to the Leathernecks.
At least half of first-year head coach Nathan Janak’s players were playing football until last Friday.
“The kids got tired real quick,” Coach Janak said Wednesday. “It was our first game and some of them had just come off the football field … and they’re just not in basketball shape, by any means, yet. It was nothing that wasn’t expected the first game.”
