Student Success: Martinez accepted to UT Acting Program

Special to the PRESS

Some may call him Morris the Marvelous, and it’s completely understandable. You may know him from the Camille Playhouse as the face of Shrek in  Shrek the Musical or as Tony in West Side Story, and you’re about to know him as an actor in the University of Texas at Austin’s Actor’s Training Program (ATP). Morris Jude Martinez, 18, of Port Isabel High School was accepted into the ATP, will be a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting major, and was only one of 25 actors and dancers to receive a $10,000 scholarship from the Theatre and Dance department. By being in the ATP, Martinez will be able to have proper training for a career in the acting business by taking classes in the fields of work, film, and television. More than 700 students tried out for the ATP, and Martinez was among 16 aspiring actors to make the cut. Considering he has been acting for only four years, this is a huge accomplishment. Break a leg, Morris!
