The City of Port Isabel approved the Local Grant Program Applicant’s Certification & Program Assurances and the final reading of Ordinance No. 03-10-2015-01, prohibiting drilling and mining of the City of Port Isabel Park and Recreation development site known as the Arturo Galvan Coastal Park — previously known as Derry Coastal Park. Both are required documents in order to submit a developing grant for the upcoming park.

The Local Grant Program Applicant’s Certification & Program Assurances, as put by Margie Jacobs, EDC administrative assistant, “pretty much states that the City will follow all of the rules and regulations of the grant should we be awarded that grant, and that we will not do anything illegal or above board.”

She also clarified the approval of Ordinance No. 03-10-2015-01. “They require this as a stipulation in order to get the grant. What you are saying is that we will never go and dig for oil or gas on that property. We are allowed to dig for water.”
