After a memorable election cycle, a new era for Port Isabel City Hall has begun as Jeffery David Martinez was sworn in as the new Place 4 commissioner. Attorney Gilberto Hinojosa administered the oath of office while a large crowd of residents and supporters looked on.

Martinez defeated incumbent Guillermo “Memo” Torres by a wide margin, earning just over 68 percent of the vote, while Torres garnered 31 percent.

“The citizens have spoken,” said Martinez after taking his place on the City Board. “I look forward to serving each and every one of you to the best of my ability. There’s a lot of work to be done here in the City of Port Isabel and it’s time for us to get to work.”
