WEB EXCLUSIVE: Nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana intercepted on Island

Authorities intercepted a 976 pound shipment of marijuana early last Thursday near Beach Access 6 on South Padre Island. According to federal court records, a gray Chevrolet Tahoe and a white Ford F-250 truck were being observed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine about three miles north of Beach Access 6. The truck fled and the Tahoe was stopped by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). The driver, Raul Gutierrez, was arrested after the confiscation of the large amount of marijuana. Gutierrez was charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
