The Historical Preservation Committee met Tuesday afternoon for a short meeting to discuss ongoing projects including an Oral History interview project, cleaning of historical markers on the Island, and City Hall’s “Wall of Honor.”

First on the agenda was an update for the City Hall “Wall of Honor,” which was established to recognize significant contributors to the community’s quality of life by way of public service, education, culture and arts and volunteerism. The committee approved the plaque style; the four initial inductees to the “Wall of Honor” include Padre Jose Nicolas Balli, John L. Tompkins, Ila Loetscher and Dr. James Stillman. City Staff will proceed to complete the plaques as approved.

The committee moved onto discuss the cleaning of historical markers on the Island, which has been an ongoing project.  Before setting a date, member Joe Townsend plans to survey the markers and bring a list with photographs and locations back to the next meeting.
