Special to the PRESS

Dear editor,

A poem to celebrate the string of defeats for pro-LNG resolutions by different public agencies in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.

THE DEFEAT OF LNG  VAMPIRES AND ZOMBIES

I was with that big group of villagers
When we finally wiped out the vampires
There were a whole lot of us there
Most of the countryside and villages.

The vampires created the first zombies
To support them and do their bidding.
Zombies were a type of unthinking specters
Vampires’ servants told us to fear the zombies.

Vampires in our time were the rich nobles
The GOP or greedy one percent
Zombies were created from our kin to serve
Vampires; why were they ever called nobles?

The vampires told us the zombies were our enemy
They made zombie guns, zombie bullets, and targets
The zombies tried to wipe out us villagers and distracted
Us from fighting the vampires, who were the real enemy.

A lot of us villagers believed the lies of the vampires
Thought that we could become nobility like them
Owning huge castles, Thoroughbreds, and fine carriages.
All the while paying tribute to those bloodsucking vampires.

Most of us villagers finally learned through experience
The real enemy.  Fighting the zombies prepared us well
For that final battle against the vampires and their forces.
Fighting those zombies was a great training experience.

Destroying a zombie’s brain means hitting a small target
Shrunken from lack of use.  Some zombies recovered
If they were exposed to lengthy light; I’ve seen it happen.
Us villagers defeated them and turned to the final target

Seeing a cross will not really destroy a vampire
That myth cost a lot of us villagers our lives
Sunrise works; enlightenment brings their doom
Like a stake through the heart, very small in a vampire

We finally eliminated all the living dead
Never to see either again in our land
Sometimes I regret so many zombie deaths
They were just like us villagers, but brain dead.
