The South Padre Island Parks, Recreation, and Beautification Committee is very busy preparing for the upcoming holiday festivities including the Lighting of the Tree and Tuba Christmas, Christmas parade and awards ceremony, Breakfast with Santa, and the Holiday Lighting Contest.
Kicking off the Holiday events, the Lighting of the Christmas Tree and Tuba Concert is a free event scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the front entrance of SPI City Hall. Refreshments will be available, and Santa will be joining the party after the concert.
The Christmas parade is also well on its way in preparations with 25 entries already signed up. The parade is about three weeks away, and the planning committee expects plenty of last minute entries, like previous years, to get to the 50 plus desired contestants. The parade is scheduled for Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. and will follow a route from Mars to Kingfish along Padre Boulevard.
