The Port Isabel City Commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to appoint Jared Hockema as city manager.
Hockema has been serving as interim city manager since May of this year after the City terminated former City Manager Edward P. Meza, who served in that capacity for more than a decade.
“I want to congratulate Jared on his appointment as city manager,” Mayor Joe E. Vega said after the meeting. “He has served as interim for more than six months. He has a grasp on the needs of the City,” he continued.
Hockema expressed enthusiasm at the appointment, citing his longstanding familiarity with both the community and members of the commission. “I grew up in this area; I live in this area. I care about the City and the people here,” he said. “(The commission knows) me and they know the work I’ve done over the years.”
