Special to the PRESS
Even though Christmas felt like Easter with the temperatures, and now the chill of winter has paid the Island a visit, it’s time for the Christmas tree to come down. The City of South Padre Island wants to remind you that all live trees can be recycled into mulch, free of charge.
Bring your tree to 4501 Padre Blvd any Saturday between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. from now until February 6, 2016 and we’ll grind it down into mulch for the garden or landscaping.
Bring trees to the Island for grinding and pick up mulch in Port Isabel’s Public Works building at 217 W. Hickman, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on
Saturdays 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Trees with ornaments, tinsel, lights, wire, nails or tree stands cannot be recycled so please remove everything you decorated it with to protect workers operating the chipper from decorations becoming shrapnel and potentially causing an injury.
For more information on this topic, or questions contact Gary Ainsworth, City of South
Padre Island Public Information Officer.
