Seven track and field meets are in the books for the 2016 season and it is now time to make final preparations for next week’s District 32-4A meet.

The Port Isabel High Lady Tarpons track and field squad competed in last week’s Meet of Champions, and even though the team finished way down in the team standings head coach Julie Breedlove very much liked what she saw in Weslaco last Saturday.

“We qualified in almost every event,” Breedlove said Monday.  “We had some pretty tough competition and most of the girls made the finals in the elite heats.  So that was a neat thing.”

In individual events medal performances were turned in by Natalie Garza and Alex Martinez.  Garza was third in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 59.66 seconds, and Martinez cleared 10 feet even to also finish third in the pole vault.
