Martinez 4th at State Meet

Port Isabel High powerlifter John Ray Martinez placed fourth at last week’s Boys State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene.

Martinez, competing in the 198-pound class, set new personal records on all three lifts and his total lift was also a personal best.

Martinez’s best effort on the squat lift was 600 pounds, and he followed that with 365 pounds on the bench press and 555 pounds on the dead lift.  Each of these totals was done on his third and final attempts on each lift.  Martinez registered successful lifts on all nine attempts and did not get a single red light from any of the three judges on any attempt.
