Splash events — celebrations focusing on the LGBT community —  have become some of the most popular and profitable gatherings on South Padre Island. Judging by the traffic and the packed hotels, restaurants, and nightclubs, last weekend’s latest Splash extravaganza was a tremendous success, with thousands participating in the many concerts, parties and activities being offered to attendees. Local hotels and businesses enjoyed a boost in sales and rentals as Splash partygoers partook of the many amenitiesavailable for Island visitors.

Highlights of the weekend-long festivities included a Rainbow Welcome Party at the Upper Deck, a party cruise boat, pool parties, Pardi Gras at Tequila Sunset featuring YouTube sensations Bria and Chrissy, and the main event, A Night in White Party at Louie’s Backyard. According to Splash organizers, the event drew a record turnout, with VIP tickets selling out as a capacity crowd decked out in white clothing danced, partied and enjoyed the music of former American Idol contestant David Hernandez, and YouTube singing sensation, Brandon Skeie.
