Special to the PRESS
Laguna Vista resident Wendi Well Torres has announced her run for a seat on the Point Isabel Independent School District Board of Trustees. Wells Torres is seeking election at Place 4.
Wells Torres comes from humble beginnings, as she grew up on a farm in Nampa, Idaho. After her father took a job with the railroad, Wells Torres’ family moved to Horseshoe, Idaho, where she attended Horseshoe High School. There she met her high school sweetheart-turned-husband, Juan Torres. The couple have been married 24 years and have raised three children, son Dakkota, daughter, Gabriella, and son, Xavier.
Wells Torres attended tech school after graduating high school, first to earn a certificate in photography, and then to earn a cosmetology degree. She owned her own business, Shear Perfection, in Idaho before she and her family moved to the Laguna Madre region in 2009.
Wells Torres’ children have proudly attended PIISD schools, with Dakkota now a senior in college studying kinesiology and adaptive sports while Gabriella earned salutatorian honors with the Class of 2015. Currently, Gabriella is studying business and running track at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
As a mother of a child with special needs, Well Torres has become active in volunteering her time to benefit children with special needs. She has helped organize and coordinate the Autism walk for the last five years, as well as served as treasurer of the Lower Valley Event Committee, which hosts events and sports for Laguna Madre area special needs students.
Wells Torres’ dedication to students extends even further, however, as she and her husband are currently hosting two foreign exchange students: Saki from Japan, and Natinee from Thailand.
Wendi Wells Torres is proud to announce her candidacy for School Board of Trustees, Place 4. Election Day is Saturday, May 7.
