Lady Tarpons Begin Summer Hoops Play

Special to the PRESS

The Port Isabel High Lady Tarpons basketball team will be participating in a summer hoops league, and have already played their first two games.

The Press found girls’ basketball coach Blake Ramsey busying himself at the athletic offices this week, and was able to find out just what is going on with this year’s summer basketball activities.

There are actually several summer leagues getting started in the Valley.  Port Isabel is playing in the one at La Feria.  At least 13, and possibly one or two more, teams will be playing in the La Feria league, and all games will be played in La Feria.

“I have 12 girls who have signed up to play,” Coach Ramsey said Monday.

Participation in summer league ball is voluntary, but the players all know how important it is to spend at least a few weeks of their summer vacation playing organized basketball.
