Two Port Isabel High baseball players have been named to the East squad for the upcoming RGV East-West All-Star game, to be played in La Joya later this month.

Javier Hernandez and Jonathan Garza were chosen by a committee of Valley baseball coaches.  The game is played annually and is open only to graduated seniors.  Hernandez was also named to the Brownsville Herald’s All-Metro Team as the second-team catcher.

The Press found PIHS head football coach and athletic director Monty Stumbaugh at the athletic offices this week and he spoke about these two young men and what it means to be chosen for this game.

“It’s a great honor and a good way to end their high school careers,” Stumbaugh said.  “It reflects on the baseball program, the kids, the coaches, and the job they did this year.  We’re very proud of them.  They’ve been on Varsity for four years.”
