Former Port Isabel High School student-athlete Kelcie Swink is home from her first year of college in Nebraska and, as she reported last week, it was a very successful freshman year.

“It was absolutely amazing,” Swink told the Press last Friday.  “I just loved being there.  It was cold.  That was the only downfall … it’s a little bit colder than it is here!”

Swink is a 2015 graduate of Port Isabel High School and is attending York College in Nebraska on a softball scholarship.

“We started softball in the fall.  We call it fall ball.  We play tournaments and we play just to get ready for the (spring season).”

Swink described the process of deciding on a major; “The one thing I enjoyed 100 percent was playing the sports that I love.  I want to be a coach and coach at the collegiate level, at some point in time.  So I’m majoring in physical education and getting a coaching endorsement.”
