The clock is winding down for the 2016 general election, which will occur on Nov. 8. In preparation, Cameron County Election Administrator Remi Garza stood before the Commissioners Court Tuesday to provide a preliminary update on potential early voting location and hours of operation changes.

Polling locations will differ from those available during the Primary elections this spring in that eight more sites will be added, Garza said. The sites are being included because they have been used in previous general elections, he said.

Issues with availability of two polling places in La Feria and Harlingen have resulted in a search for suitable alternatives. Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen has volunteered the hospital as a potential site for Precinct 79 in place of a small fire station that offers limited parking, Garza said.
