Laguna Vista’s Fire Department has a new recruit.

Dubbed “The Beast,” the recent addition to the department’s ranks is a five ton, six wheel drive military truck donated by the Texas A&M Forest Service and converted into a brush fire truck.

“The Beast” will be used for brush fire, chemical spills, high water rescues and evacuations, according to Laguna Vista City Manager Rolando Vela.

“We also secured a $20,000 grant from Texas A&M Forest Service to install a 750 gallon skid unit.  It also includes 20 gallons of foam for chemical fires,” Vela said.
