The Port Isabel Lady Tarpons Volleyball team is competing in their first tournament this weekend in McAllen. Poundfest, as it is known, started Thursday and continues through this Saturday.
The team opened the 2016 season at home against Brownsville Hanna this past Tuesday night and came out on the losing end of a best-of-five score, three sets to one.
“I thought the girls did a great job,” fourth-year head coach Julie Breedlove said afterwards. “We had some kids playing out of position – Sabrina Garza normally plays the right side, but she came out and did a real good job for us in the middle.”
The first set was even until Hanna scored the last five points to win, 25-20. P.I. led all the way to win the second set, 25-14. Want the whole story? Pick up a copy of the Port Isabel-South Padre Press, or subscribe to our E-Edition by clicking here.
