Band officers essential for smooth running

It takes more than a few directors to run a high school marching band, at least in Port Isabel.  Every year the Port Isabel High Silver Tarpon Marching Band elects a number of officers, including a president and vice-president, a librarian and even a spirit leader.

The directors, starting with the head director of bands in the Port Isabel school system, Scott Hartsfield, are in charge, of course.  But the band officers, elected by and from the band membership, are essential to the smooth operation and success of the band.

In part, band officers serve as liaisons between their fellow bandsmen and the directors.  For one sort of problem or another it’s often easier to start with a friend or classmate who is a band officer than it is to go straight to one of the directors.
