Tarpons scrimmage at Donna North Friday

The Port Isabel Tarpons football team has continued its morning schedule of practices this week, and was scheduled to hold its first scrimmage of the 2016 season this Friday (the 12th).

Players put on the pads and started contact work last Friday, and an intra-squad scrimmage was played on Saturday.  The Press found head P.I. coach and athletic director Monty Stumbaugh in his office on Monday, and he talked about how the team has progressed.

“They got after it pretty good,” Stumbaugh told the Press.  “We had a little scrimmage on Saturday.  We’ve got a long way to go but we’ve always got a long way to go this early in the year, nothing new.”

There were the usual problems and concerns, as well as some positives, with last Saturday’s team scrimmage.

“They got after it pretty good – it was hot,” Stumbaugh said this week.  “They got a little tired at the end and some of that came from not doing enough conditioning during the summer.  The effort was good and they were going hard.”
