The Port Isabel Tarpons basketball team won its opening game of the 2016-2017 season Tuesday night, as they took a 46-36 decision over the Leathernecks of Marine Military Academy in Harlingen.
They are now becoming a complete team as the player roster has grown with the arrival of the guys who were involved with football come into the program.
Second-year head coach Anthony Velarde was satisfied with his team’s performance against MMA. “It was a little sloppy at times. We’re still a young team. Overall it was a good showing.”
