School board incumbents run unopposed

With the Friday filing deadline now lapsed the Port Isabel School Board election picture is near complete. School Board President Cecilia Castillo and Trustee Jennifer Pinkerton were the only two candidates who filed to run in the May election.

“We will not have a need for an election,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lisa Garcia explained to the board during Tuesday’s regular meeting. However, due to the state election code, before an election can be cancelled, one must first be called. As a result, the board unanimously approved an order of election which will be revisited at next month’s regular meeting, where the board can vote on its cancellation.
