Season ends just shy of playoffs

The 2017 football season came to an end for the Port Isabel Tarpons last Friday night when they came up five points short at the end of a hard-fought football game against the Bears of Corpus Christi – West Oso at Tarpon Stadium.

A win in the last game of the regular season would have qualified Port Isabel for the playoffs.  Instead it’s West Oso that advances to a bi-district matchup against state-ranked Cuero this Friday night in Corpus Christi.

The Tarpons led 3-0 and 10-6 in the first half and touchdowns on their first two possessions of the second half put them in front, 24-13.  West Oso scored 21 unanswered points to go ahead 35-24 before P.I. got on the board one last time on a short touchdown run by Brayan Medina with three minutes to play.  The Bears ran out the clock and time ran out for the Port Isabel Tarpons at 10:15 p.m. with a 35-30 season-ending defeat.
