A band director is very much like a football coach. He is responsible for assembling a staff of assistants who can contribute their knowledge and talents towards putting a good marching band on the field come football season.
Head Director of Bands for the Port Isabel Independent School District, Scott Hartsfield, has hired several new assistants for the upcoming school year. One of them is clarinet specialist Edgar S. Park. Park stayed a few minutes after practice earlier this week and the Press had a chance to get his thoughts on his new job.
After graduating from Rivera High School in Brownsville, Park earned his degree in music education at UTRGV, and then completed his Masters requirements at SMU in Dallas. He applied for an assistant’s position at schools in Dallas and in the Brownsville area, including Port Isabel.
