Theresa Capistran, Superintendent of Schools of Point Isabel ISD, as well as the rest of the PIISD school board, are reportedly extremely excited to announce the Inaugural Superintendent’s Student Scholarship Fishing Tournament on April 29 and April 30, 2022. According to Capistran, the tournament will be held at Louie’s Backyard located at 2305 Laguna Blvd., South Padre Island.

“We are so excited about having a fishing tournament in our backyard. We know that many companies and even school districts have had a fishing tournament here in our community, so we decided it was time for us to do one as well,” explained Capistran.

District volunteers will be in charge of maintaining and producing the tournament. “We are learning about this together,” said Capistran. According to her, many of the PIISD staff members are avid anglers, who have previously participated in fishing tournaments, and the district is also partnering with other companies who have hosted fishing tournaments. Those companies will be assisting the district, as well as student parents. “So many in our community have immediately volunteered to assist us to make this possible,” said Capistran.

According to her, the purpose of the fishing tournament is to raise money for student scholarships. Every penny of the proceeds raised through the tournament will go to strictly to the students for scholarships. “We know that going to college, whether it’s four years, two years, one year, costs money…Going on to school, regardless of what type of school, can be very expensive.

Our goal is to be able to assist our graduates of 2022 with additional scholarship funds. We are doing that the best way we can-by having fun and fishing in our background,” elaborated Capistran.
