PI-ISD band advances to state competition

This past Saturday, Oct. 29, the Port Isabel Mighty Silver Tarpon Band competed in the 2022 Area E Marching Contest held in Calallen, Tx.
The area competition featured 32 schools in the opening round. After earning a spot among the top 12 finalists, Port Isabel competed in the final round where they finished among the top six schools and will be advancing to the state competition. Port Isabel was awarded an “Outstanding Performance” for their show routine, “A Wonderful World” featuring soloists Samantha Schrank on vocals, Adrian Jimenez Murat on baritone, Mark Mejorado on flute, Ivonne Gonzalez on flute, and a narration by Angelina Delgado. Drum Major for the band is Sr. Lily Perez. Directors include Ronnie Rios, Alex Cavazos, Jose Cruz, Jose Guerrero, Giselle Cavazos, Edgar Park, Vivian Pena and guard tech Jose Negrete’.
The State Open Class Marching Band Contest will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Nov. 7-9. Port Isabel will be performing their show routine on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 2:15 p.m. The final round of competition will be held later that night from 7-9:30 p.m., with the awards presentation held at 9:45 p.m. Tickets are available at the Alamodome box office or Ticketmaster. Prior to the Area Contest, the band competed at the prestigious Bands of America competition where they received first place, Best Music Performance, Best Visual Performance and Best Effect in their class.
