This past Friday, March 10, PIHS hosted the Tarpon Relays at Tarpon Stadium. The track & field meet had 15 schools competing. Besides Port Isabel, other notable schools included Los Fresnos, San Benito, La Feria, LJ Juarez-Lincoln, Hidalgo, and Raymondville.
In the men’s division, Port Isabel’s had three athletes’ win a bronze medal. In the running events, Luis Ramos came in third in the 100 Meters run with a time of 11.81 seconds-a personal record (PR). In the field events, Jeffery Smith also came in third with a jumped height of 5’-10” (PR) in the High Jump event. Lastly, Evan Galvan came in third with a jump of 39’-10” in the Triple Jump event.
Other Port Isabel men’s results were as follows, Event: Athlete (place, time/distance).
100 Meters: Eli Garza (7th, 11.94), Christopher Gonzalez, (12th, 12.35)
200 Meters: Anthony Garcia (4, 23.87), Evan Galvan (8, 24.86)
400 Meters: Jesus Gaitan (11, 56.65)
800 Meters: Cleveland Smith (7, 2:12.36)
300m Hurdles: Christian Smith (14, 48.06)
