SPI gears up for TIFT

Special to the PRESS

South Padre Island will once again host once the Texas International Fishing Tournament (TIFT) on Aug. 2-6, 2023. As Texas’ largest saltwater fishing tournament, TIFT is set to bring together anglers from around the world for a thrilling competition and unforgettable fishing experiences.

“The Texas International Fishing Tournament is a beloved tradition here on South Padre Island, having established itself as an iconic event that attracts both seasoned anglers and enthusiastic amateurs to our shores each year,” said Blake Henry, South Padre Island CVB Executive Director. “South Padre Island offers the perfect backdrop for the prestigious tournament, and we are honored to host the 83rd edition. We invite fishing enthusiasts, family, and friends to join us for an incredible week of camaraderie, competition, and celebration of our island’s marine life.”

Anglers will compete in one of three exhilarating divisions to showcase their skills: bay, tarpon and offshore. The bay division promises fierce competition as anglers target popular species like redfish, speckled trout and flounder within the picturesque Laguna Madre Bay. The tarpon division brings excitement and thrill as participants aim to catch the mighty silver king. Lastly, the offshore division allows anglers to battle impressive deep-sea species such as marlin, sailfish and tuna. The tournament also features a junior division, and every child registered is awarded a trophy for their efforts.
