Incumbent and lifelong educator Bertha Zamora recently announced her intention to seek another term on the Point Isabel Independent School District (PI-ISD) School Board of Trustees.
As per her written announcement, Zamora noted that she has worked at the PI-ISD, Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District (LF-CISD), and Texas Education Association (TEA).
Zamora has been a PI-ISD School Board member since 2012. She was a teacher and principle for the PI-ISD and contributed knowledge and experience to the educational landscape, according to a press release.
She is also an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Her academic career began upon receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, followed by a Master’s in Counseling, then a Mid-Management Certification. She also received a Superintendent’s Certification.
Zamora has 33 years of community service at both the PI-ISD and LF-CISD. She was a principle for 23 years, leading four elementary schools and two high schools.
It was stated that during her tenure, all six schools had significant academic gains, such as transitioning from low-performing to recognized or exemplary ratings. During her tenure, Los Fresnos High School earned recognition as one of 50 New All-American Schools in the nation, according to the press release.
The candidate also collaborated with the School Improvement Resource Center in Austin from 2005 to 2020. During this time, TEA & Region 13 trained all PSPs (Professional Service Providers) to assist schools and districts in meeting state standards.
According to the Texas State Accountability System, she played a pivotal role in elevating 33 schools, including Port Isabel Jr. High, from low-performing to successful ratings.
Early voting commences on April 22, 2024, at Port Isabel City Hall on 305 E. Maxan St., and runs through April 30, 2024. Election Day is May 4.
