The Laguna Madre area faced a wave of storms as Tropical Storm Francine neared the coast.
The US National Weather Service in Brownsville posted continuous updates on the situation. According to the site, the general areas on alert were the “Laguna Madre from the Arroyo Colorado to five nm north of
Port Mansfield.”
The service posted continuous updates on the situation on their Facebook account. As of the time of publication, a Tropical Storm Warning is still in effect for Coastal and Inland Kenedy County and the general area from the Laguna Madre to Arroyo Colorado.
South Padre Island [SPI] saw consistent flooding as the storm raged. The Weather Channel previously predicted the rain would cause further flooding in the area. However, the storm has since passed the SPI area.
The Weather Channel later predicted lower chances of rain and sunny skies.
South Padre Island locals recorded the flooding on SPI and posted it on their Facebooks, showing water flowing throughout the streets of the Island. According to Weather Underground, a weather site, wind speeds on SPI reached 21 miles per hour. Local conditions, a site specialized in local weather, showed rainfall reached at least 1.204 inches.
In cases of severe weather, the City of Port Isabel urges citizens to be prepared for hurricane season.
