Isla Blanca Park has claimed the title of Best Texas Beach in the 2025 USA TODAY Readers’ Choice Awards, announced June 2. This marks the second consecutive year the South Padre Island favorite has landed the top spot, affirming its reputation as a standout along the Gulf Coast.
With white sands stretching toward turquoise surf, the park’s natural beauty is only the beginning. Isla Blanca offers jetty fishing, swimming, snorkeling, and pickleball—paired with pavilions, boardwalks, and food vendors. More than 600 RV campsites, a marina, and an amphitheater make it a full-scale destination for day-trippers and long-term guests alike.
“It’s a very relaxed beach,” said Sandy Keller, a full-time RVer who recently visited. “I love that you can visit the bay and the gulf in just a few steps.”
Keller, who has also explored coastal spots in Florida and Louisiana, described Isla Blanca as a clear favorite.
The beach also remains one of the island’s best locations to view SpaceX launches, drawing both space enthusiasts and casual spectators.
The competition was strong. Editors and travel experts at 10Best, part of the USA TODAY network, selected a list of top Texas beaches, then opened the vote to readers. Isla Blanca edged out Matagorda, Whitecap, and Malaquite beaches, with Rockport and Galveston Island State Park also landing in the top ten.
“I’ve traveled to many beaches in many states and countries and each one is unique,” Keller added. “Isla Blanca has beautiful sands, a perfect choice that would be great for SUP. The people were friendly.”
In a June 2, 2025, press release, Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr., said, “We are incredibly proud to see Isla Blanca Park once again named the best beach in Texas. This recognition reflects the commitment of Cameron County to preserving and enhancing our coastal treasures for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.”
Much of the park’s continued success has been credited to Cameron County’s investment in upgrades and coastal preservation. Maintenance, safety, and long-term improvements have helped keep Isla Blanca in top condition.
In the same press release, Cameron County Commissioner Sofia C. Benavides, Precinct 1, stated, “Isla Blanca Park is an essential part of our local identity and economy. We’ve made significant investments in this park to improve infrastructure, enhance amenities and protect the natural beauty that makes it so special.”
Also in the press release, Joe E. Vega, Cameron County Parks Director, noted, “This recognition is a distinguished honor and a direct result of the leadership and support of the Cameron County Commissioners’ Court, and the unwavering commitment of the Cameron County Parks & Recreation staff.”
Keller said the park “definitely is my favorite and I can’t wait to come back and spend more time.”
Beyond pride and recognition, the win boosts tourism, bolsters the local economy, and brings new attention to a place many already consider the heart of South Padre’s coastal charm.
