Local semi-pro full contact women’s football team, Port Isabel Sirens, is currently looking for more players to join their team. Women 17+ can join with zero membership fees, and no experience is needed. All equipment will be provided to the participants. Furthermore, the program will be offering year-round athletic programs, activities, workouts, events and more.

This will be the first season they play full contact football, although they previously competed in a flag football league as “Flag me Baby”.

The team currently has 11 players on the roster, Iris Horner (Off. Captain), Mayra Woods (Def. Captain), Mayra Castillo, Jennifer Zamarron, Elyssa Guerra, Krystal Balli, Julianne Hernandez, Laisha Juarez, Lupita Martinez, Mellakay Varela, Penelope Garcia, and Alysa Horner. Coaches include head coach John Horner, assistant coach Lynette Duran, trainer Maria Leyva and QB/Off coach Cody Vasquez. A full roster will consist of 25 players.

The team currently holds practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Roloff Park in Laguna Vista. Season starts on March 2026 and last until the first week of June. The home games will tentatively be played in the newly built fields behind the Laguna Madre Youth Center at 190 Port Road.

“I am really trying to build as much exposure and grow this program as big as possible.” Said coach Horner. “The women involved are really going to inspire, motivate and be role models to our community.”

The team will be playing in a 5-team league run under the So-Tex Women’s Athletics nonprofit organization, who according to their website is “focused on improving health and wellness in the Rio Grande Valley community by offering a variety of athletic opportunities to women at low cost.”
